And I sure wouldn't want you all to miss it! *wink*</span> <span style=";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;" ><br /><br />Over the years I've made many different styles of paper jewelry. I started with just handmade paper sandwiched with Pellon interfacing. I painted fun designs on the paper, attached posts or wires and called them earrings....and rightly so, they were indeed earrings, just not very durable. My latest rendition of jewelry incorporates brass wire. I form the wire into the desired shape and then pound it flat and polish it. The paper is adhered to the metal and sealed using a polymer medium called Paverpol. This stuff is amazing! If you work with natural fibers (fabric, paper, etc.) that you want rock hard and indestructible, this is the stuff! In the four and a half years we've been married I've come up with some pretty good soups, but this one wins hands down. It was about 5:00 PM when I realized that it was Sunday and the soup wasn't on! I looked in the fridge and what did I find? A bit of a yam and a piece of broccoli we had with the Honey Dijon Pork Chops Friday night (There were no remnants of the pork chops.) Some limp celery. Half a bag of spinach in the early stages of sliminess. A zucchini and yellow squash that needed to be eaten or put in the garbage. "So what can I make out of these lovely ingredients?" I asked myself.<br /><br />I got online and started looking for soups with yam as the main ingredient and came up with several versions of Spicy African Yam Soup. I pulled together various ingredients that I had in the house and magic did happen!!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCS2XDoA8e3rbQxPdi_uShttWSQ8ex54VyXFswoEowKY12wE3JGxP-3ytoWW9zkFblRFPmRJ1P2OWmfZ34ch06jpA12SvlcIDZzHLiinOZy883DO7Vv91WKfr6nGVir_Bmkf0PKwfkTlo/s1600-h/Soup+copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCS2XDoA8e3rbQxPdi_uShttWSQ8ex54VyXFswoEowKY12wE3JGxP-3ytoWW9zkFblRFPmRJ1P2OWmfZ34ch06jpA12SvlcIDZzHLiinOZy883DO7Vv91WKfr6nGVir_Bmkf0PKwfkTlo/s400/Soup+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430591997641997746" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Spicy </span><span style="font-weight: bold;">African Peanut and Veggie Soup</span><br /><br />In a big soup pot heat:<br /><blockquote>1 T. olive oil</blockquote>Sauté:<br /><blockquote>1 small onion, chopped<br />2 stalks celery, chopped<br />1 small zucchini, chopped<br />1 small yellow squash, chopped<br />1 yam, chopped<br />Any other veggies you have hanging around. As far as I can see they are just an exercise in futility. I mean, how many New Year's resolutions have you kept? Me? Zero, zilch, nada! But this year I felt an urge to do something, so I was going to write out a list of goals. Now goals are different than resolutions, aren’t they? Goals are something you work toward . . . that you can break down into tasks . . . baby steps. Right? Resolutions, on the other hand, seem less forgiving. It’s ‘do or die.’ And if you don’t do it, you’ve failed.<br /><br />So on January 1st I prepared myself to write out my goals. But, man, did it seem dry and way too much like work. Anyway, I thought, how inspiring will it be to read a bunch of words? Will that really keep me going throughout the year? Not likely!<br /><br />It was then that I saw a reference online to a vision board. This is where<br />you cut out pictures and make a collage out of them. Before I knew it, I was<br />in my studio pulling out a big piece of matboard and a bunch of magazines.<br />I grabbed my scissors and started clipping. In flipping through the magazines (Sunset, Body and Soul, Martha Stewart and O to name a few) I found images<br />that inspired and moved me and that reminded me of what it is I want for my<br />life. On my Vision Board, all the many facets – health, relationship, work, play,<br />self-care, travel – revolve around an image of balance. Balance is supreme<br />this year.<br /><br />I love my vision board and will be adding to it as the year progresses. It hangs in my bathroom so I see it everyday. Everyday I am inspired. Everyday I am reminded of what it is I want. Everyday I move closer to my ideal life.<br /><br />Here are a couple of links to sites you might find inspiring.<br /><br />This is an article about vision maps and how to create them.<br /><a href="http://selflive.com/creating-your-own-vision-map/">http://selflive.com/creating-your-own-vision-map/</a><br /><br />This has got to be coolest site I’ve ever come across. You can build your own vision map video with music and affirmations and beautiful images. You can then download your creation to your desktop to view everyday. And best of all it’s all free!!<a href="http://www.visionboardsite.com/"> http://www.visionboardsite.com</a><br /><br />Something I found very useful in my Vision Map building is my <a href="http://www.save-on-crafts.com/xyron900.html">Xyron machine</a>. I just took all my cutout pictures and ran them through my Xyron which put permanent adhesive on them so I could just peel and stick (you can also get a repositionable adhesive.) She's also an incredible artist. Her artwork, made of bones, feathers, shells, leather and other trinkets and treasures found in her wanderings, is alive with the spirits of the ancient past. She appropriately calls her work <a href="http://mygrandmothershands.com/Ancestors.html"><span style="font-style: italic;">'the Ancestors.'</span></a> Born of Kim's deep connection with spirit, the earth and the grandmother who visits her dreams, each Ancestor offers a message of wisdom and hope.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnVoVWm0ThGepBfcte2yr754VTos9okdXJLUDdzPLdpQBSdWvpHVMz7Lw20Lks8XsgNeTXk27Lp7M1gSiykrVtlh-c8-l-OlldwMlaDatNDh5YtZs2juZI1Q9vdbdXoIjdJYjBzW7woRA/s1600-h/Gatherer_head.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 294px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnVoVWm0ThGepBfcte2yr754VTos9okdXJLUDdzPLdpQBSdWvpHVMz7Lw20Lks8XsgNeTXk27Lp7M1gSiykrVtlh-c8-l-OlldwMlaDatNDh5YtZs2juZI1Q9vdbdXoIjdJYjBzW7woRA/s320/Gatherer_head.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315386168771430178" border="0" /></a><br />This week I was delighted to invite <span style="font-style: italic;">the Gatherer</span>, one of Kim's Ancestors into my life. <span style="font-style: italic;">The Gatherer</span> speaks to me not only in her message but in who she is. A blog award!!<a href="http://newdominionblues.blogspot.com/"> http://newdominionblues.blogspot.com/</a> had notified me the she has passed on a KreativBlogger award on to me and six other bloggers. I must admit that I'm rather stunned since I'm a blogging neophyte but I humbly accept and most gratefully pass this honor on to some worthy bloggers. The only requirement of this award is to list 7 (my favorite number!) things I love and to pass the award on to 7 honorable bloggers and, of course, letting them know they won! So here are seven loves (hard to pick only seven.)</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">I love:</span> <span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><ul><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Moss and mushrooms and moonbeams.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The tell-tale sparkle of a fairy’s passing.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The blush pink color of Thumbelina’s rose petal blanket.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The hush of the forest at dusk.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The crisp clear scent of a waterfall.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The glinting of sunlight off a dragonfly’s wings.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">The smell of rain and the sound of thunder.</span></li></ul> <br /><span style="font-family:arial;">I am honored to pass this award on to:</span> <span style="font-family:arial;"><br /><br /></span><ul><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Sue at <a href="http://bartonoriginals.blogspot.com/">http://bartonoriginals.blogspot.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Catherine at <a href="http://imagocorvi.blogspot.com/">http://imagocorvi.blogspot.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Julie at <a href="http://thepeacefulpeacock.wordpress.com/">http://thepeacefulpeacock.wordpress.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Maryann at <a href="http://maryanncleary.blogspot.com/">http://maryanncleary.blogspot.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Alison at <a href="http://paintandink.blogspot.com/">http://paintandink.blogspot.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Justine at <a href="http://potomacrivergoods.blogspot.com/">http://potomacrivergoods.blogspot.com/</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family:arial;">Suzannah at <a href="http://thewindandraincreations.blogspot.com/">http://thewindandraincreations.blogspot.com/</a></span></li></ul>Jan Moulderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552517730645865184noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591746129082824979.post-34543855714801464782009-03-03T01:33:00.000-08:002009-03-15T20:15:17.713-07:00Making Paper Leaves<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZV07qhppSmG5tbErrCGtg8GfE36LZP8EVAgsaDASh6HGQIS_FrUtJFHccnBXjKI6uRZGaEBw91arDVMGg0cH6pfCM7Xbj8zncjwy_xvyaVkgyyFoipccdpAmrbTOB9kazUS5VxC1i5o8/s1600-h/Cast+Leaves+1st+set.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 264px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZV07qhppSmG5tbErrCGtg8GfE36LZP8EVAgsaDASh6HGQIS_FrUtJFHccnBXjKI6uRZGaEBw91arDVMGg0cH6pfCM7Xbj8zncjwy_xvyaVkgyyFoipccdpAmrbTOB9kazUS5VxC1i5o8/s400/Cast+Leaves+1st+set.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5308894715051774338" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style=";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;" >One-off paper casts of leaves<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style=";font-family:arial;font-size:100%;" >I really wanted to start this blogging thing more gracefully and with more planning. But it looks like I'm just going to plunge in here and start blathering. All because I am so thrilled with these paper leaves I made last night! They look so much like real leaves that I had my very observant husband fooled. The leaves are made by applying a freshly made sheet of paper to the back of a real leaf. After tearing off the excess paper and pressing the moist sheet firmly into the veins of the leaf, I let it dry. I dyed them with fiber dyes and some <a href="http://www.joggles.com/store/catalog/index.php?cPath=387_780">Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist</a>, dry brushed on some gold paint and then finished them off with <a href="http://www.joggles.com/store/catalog/index.php?cPath=194_556"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Paverpol</span></a>. Now, what to do with them?!?</span><br /></div></div>Jan Moulderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552517730645865184noreply@blogger.com5
