The Gift

Ask and ye shall receive….it just may take a while.  Like a year maybe?

On March 15th of last year I wrote a blog post about Tango, a paper leaf sculpture.  The response was very positive and folks were asking me to make more and list them in my shop.  Well, I’ve finally done it!  Today I listed ‘The Gift.’

Gift 1

I hesitate to mention this because I’m so intermittent in my production, but I’ve got more leaves in the works and a bunch of new ideas up my sleeve.  So -- dare I say? -- stay tuned!

A walk in the woods . . .

Here I am in the enchanted forest taking inspiration from Mother Nature.

Ladybird Grove Redwoods 100309 137

We are vacationing in the Redwoods on the north coast of California.  These are some pictures from our walk in the Lady Bird Johnson Grove.

Shrine

Worshipping at the shrine of everlasting life.  Even though the core of this tree is completely burned out, it is still alive and thriving in the canopy.  These huge trees gave off such a warm and comforting energy.  I was enveloped by it.

A few inspirational tidbits…

Emerson Bindery's Elegant Books

One of the things that really drew me to papermaking was my love of books. So I'm always on the lookout for handmade books of exceptional quality. I found some recently in this wonderful little shop owned by a perfectionistic bookmaker named Beth. When it comes to bookbinding being a perfectionist is a good thing!

Beth says, "I enjoy custom orders and working with my customers to create a book they'll fall in love with! I've worked with Grammy award winning rock band, The Fray, to create a backstage guest book for their 2009 summer tour. I have also worked with The Arnold Grummer Company to design an accordion book project using handmade papers and recycled CDs for the covers."

This multi-talented artist also plays in the clay and makes some lovely polymer pendants.

My Paper Jewelry

I haven't talked about my jewelry here so I figured now is the opportune time since I'm having a 20% off sale. And I sure wouldn't want you all to miss it! *wink*

Over the years I've made many different styles of paper jewelry. I started with just handmade paper sandwiched with Pellon interfacing. I painted fun designs on the paper, attached posts or wires and called them earrings....and rightly so, they were indeed earrings, just not very durable. My latest rendition of jewelry incorporates brass wire. I form the wire into the desired shape and then pound it flat and polish it. The paper is adhered to the metal and sealed using a polymer medium called Paverpol. This stuff is amazing! If you work with natural fibers (fabric, paper, etc.) that you want rock hard and indestructible, this is the stuff! You can read more about it on their website
.

So without further ado, I present Bijouterie Papier!
